On Thursday 21 April 2022, Australia Awards Fiji farewelled our first two Awardees, destined for Australia, in over two years.
Both Kapil and Ratu Marika are about to embark on their Master of Global Health at the University of New South Wales!
Kapil “On our way to Sydney now, boarding and leaving our loved ones behind is in fact something I had not anticipated….the feeling of sadness, anxiety and a little bit of fear because my family and I will be out of our comfort zones…however, moving out of one’s comfort zones is what makes leaders and legends. Keeping in mind why I have been chosen for this, not only am I representing my family name and honour but also my ministry, community and beloved Nation.”
Ratu Marika “Bula Vinaka! I am really, really excited and thankful to God for this opportunity esp. being an AAS Recipient for 2021 and one of the first 2 to mobilise to Australia to further develop and improve our knowledge and skills.. Yes we have gone through a lot with Covid19 but we persevered and with the co-operation and support from our governments, we were able to navigate ourselves out of this pandemic. I am also thankful to the Australian Government and DFAT for their trust in maintaining this Vuvale partnership through education so that we can return back to Australia after 2 years, and contribute to the development of our Nation and the region.”
We wish them well!
