Today, we mark the annual Day of the Seafarer! We acknowledge #Pacific seafarers such as #AustraliaAwards alumna, Sheryne Kanawale, who are making great waves in the maritime industry!
Sheryne was born in Fiji’s first capital city and port-of-call, Levuka. Being surrounded by the ocean inspired her to sail the seas, before joining the Training Productivity Authority of Fiji and later, the Fiji Maritime Academy, to train aspiring ship officers and captains.
In 2018, she was thrilled to be awarded a scholarship to study a Bachelor of Applied Science (Nautical Science) at the Australian Maritime College in #Tasmania.
#StudyinginAustralia has added great value to Sheryne’s role as the only female lecturer at the Fiji Maritime Academy.
I’ve learned to better interact with students who have different paces and ways of learning. I can change my approaches to enable them to learn at their best.
An inspiration to #seasisters across the #Pacific, Sheryne is also the President of the Steering Fiji Women Seafarers Association. Thank you and your fellow seafarers for the amazing contribution you make in keeping our borders safe and our maritime industry sustainable.
