Australia Awards alumnus, Lae Peleti, graduated from the University of the South Pacific (USP) with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Information System under the Australia Awards Pacific Scholarship in 2018.
Lae, a math enthusiast, saw an opportunity to give back to Tuvalu through the development of information systems.
“With ever-growing changes in technology, I sensed the growing need to understand information systems and technology in every aspect of national development.”
Through his studies at Laucala Campus in Fiji, Lae acquired a set of skills which he brought to his role as Senior Statistician at the Tuvalu Government’s Central Statistics Division.
“As a result of my theoretical and practical learning, I am able to forecast and calculate different statistics, manage information data and generate reports for our stakeholders.”
Living in Fiji and interacting with people of diverse backgrounds has also honed Lae’s inter-personal skills.
“My experiences enabled me to overcome a fear of public speaking and empowered me to be confident. Thank you, Australia Awards!”
