Meet Lavenia Burns; Australia Awards alumnus and Midwife at Colonial War Memorial (CWM) Hospital, Suva.
Reflecting on World Breastfeeding Day, Lavenia is clearly passionate about the role she plays in educating women and raising awareness on the importance of breastfeeding. From antenatal clinics to the first touch between a new mother and baby, Lavenia ensures new mothers have all the information and support they need to establish effective breastfeeding.
Lavenia started her nursing career in 2002, then fulfilled her dream of becoming a midwife in 2018 through an Australia Awards Pacific Scholarship. Over her career, she has graciously supported hundreds of Fijian mothers in their breastfeeding journey.
“As a midwife I’m privileged to see support this special bond between new mothers and their babies. My role is rewarding and I’m truly grateful.”
Like midwives across world, Lavenia Burns is an advocate of breastfeeding!
