Australia Awards Alumnus, Losafou Ampelosa, is a lawyer at the Office of the People’s Lawyer.
In 2018, through an Australia Awards Pacific Scholarship, Losafou graduated from the University of the South Pacific (USP) with a Bachelor of Arts (Geography) and Law. Her scholarship allowed her to study at both the Vanuatu and Fiji USP campus’, creating strong regional networks.
Losafou considers her overall #Australiaawards experience as transformational,
“my studies provided an invaluable insight into the workings of a law firm and how I can serve my people better with the skills and legal knowledge I have attained. I also got to boost my legal credentials through court visits and networking sessions.”
This learning sparked Losafou’s determination to make a difference; advocating for legislation that ensures the protection of Tuvalu’s people, island communities, marine ecosystems and land resources.
Losafou now aspires to expand her knowledge in climate change mitigation to better understand and support Tuvalu’s climate change laws.
“Climate change has always been a national threat to the islands of Tuvalu. So, one of the important aspects that needs to be properly developed is new standalone legislation that strengthens Tuvalu’s response to climate change and its impacts.”
We’re confident Losafou will continue to make positive developments in Tuvalu’s legal and climate changes sectors. #Australiaawards #law #land
